Real Sociedad 0 Olympique 1: A lively Olympique Lyon gained the upper hand in their game against Real Sociedad after a 1-0 win in the first leg at Anoeta last night.

Lyon were deserved winners but despite their domination it took an own goal to decide the match, Sociedad defender Gabriel Schurrer turning into his own net on 18 minutes as he tried to clear from midfielder Florent Malouda.

Sociedad, who had not lost at home in European competition since 1975, made a promising start as they won a succession of corners and created several early chances.

But once they burst into life the French side proved a real handful for the home team's defence, with Malouda, Juninho Pernambucano and Peguy Luyindula proving a constant threat on the break.

The French champions had several chances to take a more handsome lead into the second leg, but a combination of excellent keeping from Sociedad's Sander Westerveld and sloppy finishing kept the scoreline at 1-0.
