NFL Division Two A/ Roscommon 3-11 Longford 2-13: Two goals from Karol Mannion at the end of the first half left Roscommon in a commanding seven points lead, 3-4 to 0-6, at the break and when Longford were reduced to 14 players after Liam Keenan was shown a straight red card, there appeared to be no way back for Luke Dempsey's side at Pearse Park.
Keenan was punished for his off-the-ball challenge on Séamus O'Neill in the 35th minute, moments after Mannion fired home a goal from close range. Things got worse for the home side when Mannion completed his hat-trick with a strike in the second minute of stoppage-time.
Mannion grabbed his first goal in the 18th minute to give Roscommon a 1-2 to 0-4 lead with Stephen Lohan and Ger Heneghan (free) getting the early points.
Longford were not yet finished, however, and a Paul Barden goal in the 45th minute gave them some hope.
Two points from O'Neill helped maintain Roscommon's grip on the game and they held a comfortable 3-11 to 1-11 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
Longford came storming back and following a couple of points and a goal from Brian Kavanagh reduced the deficit to the minimum before time ran out on the home team.
