The long hot summer finally came to a successful end for the ladies of Massereene golf club when they won the Ulster Bank sponsored All-Ireland Ladies Fourball championship at St Margaret's last week.

From a field of 265 starters, Massereene took the title for the first time with a 21/2 to 1/2 win over Claremorris in an exciting final.

Massereene made the perfect start when Marie Agnew and Teresa Cushnahan beat Chris Fenwick and Ann Cosgrove 5 and 4 in the top match. Jenny Parkhill and Martha McGowan followed with a 3 and 2 win over Mary Walsh and Davnet Bourke to secure the victory, and in the final match Marie McCollum and Eva Hamilton halved with Nieve Kitching and Ann Moran.
