TENNIS: Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo has pulled out of the US Open to fully recover from a groin problem.

TENNIS:Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo has pulled out of the US Open to fully recover from a groin problem.

The injury has prevented the Frenchwoman from playing competitive tennis since the Fed Cup in July.

"I need to take the necessary time to rediscover my desire and to be able to be at my best level for when I return," Mauresmo said on her website.

The 28-year-old, who is ranked seven in the world, reached the semi-finals at last year's US Open.

"I have still not resumed playing in training and under such conditions; taking part in the US Open with a chance of winning is not possible," she said.

Mauresmo said she hoped to return for the China Open, which starts on September 17th.
