Rory McIlroy provided another glimpse of his vast potential with a closing round of 68 at the Portugal Masters in Vilamoura this morning.
A triple bogey at the 18th yesterday evening scotched any chance the Co Down teenager had of making an impression on the leaderboard but McIlroy carded a flawless final round to move to seven-under and finish his fourth tournament as a professional on a bright note.
Argentina's Daniel Vancsik birdied the first two holes of his final round and still only led by one.
Already 18-under par overnight Vancsik holed putts of 15 and 12 feet, but when he failed to add another at the long third he had England's Steve Webster, South African Charl Schwartzel and Swede Robert Karlsson right on his heels again.
Lee Westwood kept himself in the hunt with two birdies in the first four. At 17 under he was three behind and joint fifth with two more Swedish players, Peter Hanson and Fredrik Andersson.
