Rory McIlroy's chances of becoming the youngest winner in European Tour history remain alive but the teenager has plenty to do in today's final round of the Madrid Open.

McIlroy began the day four shots off the lead held by Argentina's Daniel Vancsik and was five adrift of new leader Mads Vibe-Hastrup after 10 holes.

The 18-year-old from Co Down carded two birdies and three bogeys, before recording an eagle at the 10th to lie on 10-under, four off Vibe-Hastrup who compiled a flawless outward half of 34.

At 14 under he led by three from Vancsik, who collapsed to a quintuple-bogey nine on the fifth after missing the green with his approach.
