CricketFormer Ireland captain Jason Molins had a mixed day at Malahide yesterday, scoring an unbeaten half-century for Ireland A in a thrilling game against the MCC but picking up an injury in the process, reports James Fitzgerald.
While Molins remained unbeaten until the end, it was quite a slow knock lasting 94 balls and was broken by a spell on the sideline after he pulled a groin muscle that now threatens to keep him out for two or three weeks.
On quite a slow pitch, Ireland A made 198 for nine off their 50 overs, with Railway Union's Kenny Carroll also impressing in front of the selectors with a well-crafted 50.
The MCC looked in trouble on 80 for eight but Shaaiq Choudhry and Ruel Brathwaite put on 107 for the ninth wicket to turn the game in their favour. Brathwaite (71 not out off 51 balls) saw his side home with one wicket to spare.
