Colin Montgomerie has his eye on the captaincy for the 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales and the 2014 edition in Scotland.
The Scot, 43, said Nick Faldo was a good choice to skipper
Europe in their Cup defence against the United States in Kentucky
next year and hoped he could take over from the six-times major
champion.
"Nick will be excellent. He's got more points in Ryder Cup
history than anybody else," said Montgomerie at the launch of a new
course in the Gulf state of Bahrain.
"He's got incredible experience and he'll bring that to the
table. Hopefully I'll be in his team and...the next captain in
Wales in 2010.
"Then hopefully I'll be captain of the team some more,
whenever that might be. Gleneagles (2014) might be quite good."
The eight-times European number one was a member of the side
that defeated the US at the K Club in Ireland in September but
otherwise endured a frustrating 2006, failing to win a tournament
in a calendar year for the first time since 1992.
Montgomerie brushed off the statistic as bad luck.
"You've just got to be fortunate to win and I just wasn't
fortunate. The first time in 14 years? No problem. I should be
winning shortly," said the Ryder Cup stalwart, who will compete in
this week's Dubai Desert Classic.
T
he burly Scot has never won a major championship, five times
finishing second.
"I don't fear myself not winning a major," he said. "I start
again at the US Masters at Augusta in April and will have a good
go.
"I'm a course record holder at Carnoustie so that's not a bad
start," said Montgomerie referring to the venue for July's British
Open.
