Uefa Cup: David Moyes is calling on his Everton team to take a leaf out of Liverpool's book this evening and record a famous European victory.Goodison Park, 8pmOn TV: Setanta Sports
The English Premiership strugglers take on Dinamo Bucharest, aiming to overturn a 5-1 deficit in the second leg of their Uefa Cup first-round match.
Given that only four sides in the 49-year history of European competition have managed to survive such a heavy first-leg loss, the odds are stacked against them. However, Moyes takes strength from Liverpool's remarkable comeback against AC Milan last May to lift the Champions League trophy.
"It is a big task, but not an impossible one," said the Everton manager. "Liverpool were 3-0 down with only 45 minutes to go. We have 90 minutes to get four goals back. We have to use that as an incentive to try to reduce the deficit. It is a situation where we are the underdogs. If we do come back it will be a terrific night."
With Sunderland winning last Sunday, Everton slumped to the foot of the English Premiership table following their defeat by Wigan 24 hours earlier.
Moyes believes there is a new mood of resolve in the dressing-room to turn things around after a terrible start to the season.
"The players are all determined to try to get something from this game," he said. "I can sense it, I can see it in them by the way they are training, the way they are reacting. One or two are beginning to brighten up and the sparkle is back in their eyes."
