Colleges SFC Finals/ St Patrick's 2-10 Good Counsel 1-6: A dazzling third quarter that saw them strike 1-4 set St Patrick's, Navan, up for victory over Good Counsel, New Ross, in the Leinster Colleges senior football final at Newbridge on Saturday.
The sides were level, 1-4 each, at half-time and when Good Counsel resumed with a James Bolger point they looked on course to cause an upset.
But St Patrick's responded and took the lead after 32 minutes when Ross Geraghty fisted to the net after a Shane O'Rourke delivery had been broken down by Mark McCabe. They added points through McCabe, Brian Sheridan (two) and Seán Keating to hold a five-point lead.
With Shane O'Rourke controlling midfield, all Good Counsel could manage after their 31st-minute point was a further point from Greg Bolger.
St Patrick's had opened brightly, easing into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead, but Good Counsel still led by two points after 26 minutes. When Greg Bolger fisted home a goal close to the break Good Counsel looked in control but a Seán Keating goal left the sides level.
