MUNSTER SFC SEMI-FINAL Nemo Rangers 1-12 Stradbally 1-5:NEMO RANGERS benefited from a debateable penalty award after just three minutes to book their final appearance without too much trouble at Páirc Uí Rinn yesterday.
Stradbally were incensed at the decision of referee Pádraig O’Sullivan for pulling up Shane Lannon’s challenge on Seán O’Brien, when it seemed the full back won the ball cleanly. David Kearney kept his composure to score from the spot.
Granted, the Waterford champions recovered to claim the next three points, including two in a minute from centre forward Shane Aherne, but Nemo’s greater class and experience told almost immediately.
The Cork holders scored four points, all from the highly influential Paul Kerrigan. He helped his side lead by 1-7 to 0-5 at the interval.
Stradbally needed a good start to the second-half, but once again Nemo came out flying, Kerrigan adding to his tally with a point.
The Waterford side conjured up a goal after 42 minutes through Robert Aherne. That was as good at it got for the visitors, who were unable to score again as Nemo tightened in defence, where Derek Kavanagh and Brian O’Regan stood out.
A minor row saw the dismissal of Stradbally’s Eddie Rockett, who received a straight red card.
