Alex Ferguson has confirmed that he tried to bring Brian Kidd back to Old Trafford as a youth team coach in a move which would have patched up the rift between Manchester United's most successful managerial team.
However the move fell through because Kidd has still not reached a financial settlement with the club he joined from United, Blackburn Rovers, and is therefore not in a position to take up a new post.
In his autobiography, Managing My Life, Ferguson had alienated Kidd by accusing him of going behind his back and undermining his authority.
Dwight Yorke has been ruled out of Manchester United's game at Wimbledon on Saturday with a thigh injury and has a race against the clock to get fit for next week's Champions League resumption. Paul Scholes and Roy Keane are already out of the game serving one-match suspensions, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is injured.
It will also be a test of Alex Ferguson's intentions regarding David Beckham after their bust-up last week which led to him being dropped from the squad which played Leeds.
United will meet Bordeaux at Old Trafford next Wednesday.
Nelson Vivas is ready to draw a line under his Arsenal career and make his loan move to Spanish side Celta Vigo permanent.
The defender, in England with Argentina squad ahead of tomorrow's Wembley clash, has an option to sign for Celta at the end of the season.
Vivas (30) said: "Living in Spain is very good for my family because it is like being in Argentina. I am disappointed I haven't played more for Arsenal because every time I've played, I have done well.
"Arsene Wenger told me he would be happy to have me back but if Celta want me I would stay with them."
Sydney soccer club Marconi Stallions hope to hook English superstar Paul Gascoigne with a fishing trip Down Under.
Australia's richest club believe they can convince Gazza to play for them next season by offering him a two-week fishing holiday. But the invitation will have to wait while Gascoigne recovers after breaking his forearm playing for Middlesbrough.
Gascoigne has been linked with a move to America, but Marconi coach Eddie Krncevic hopes to tempt Gazza to Australia. "It's more a question of finding a good fishing venue - he's a mad fisherman," said Krncevic.
