O'Brien would 'love to run' Camelot in Irish Derby

The unbeaten Aidan O’Brien-trained colt landed the Epsom Classic in style at the weekend to supplement his Qipco 2,000 Guineas success at Newmarket last month.

The son of Montjeu is odds-on to become the first horse since Nijinsky in 1970 to win the Triple Crown by adding the Ladbrokes St Leger to his haul at Doncaster in September. Before that, the mile-and-a-half showpiece at the Curragh is among the possible options.

Speaking at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby launch, O’Brien indicated the race would be considered by the Coolmore team. The Irish Field tweeted: “Irish Derby launch: Aidan ‘Camelot could run. We’ll see how he is and what everyone thinks. We’d love to run’.”

Meanwhile, O’Brien can land this evening’s mile-and-a-quarter fillies maiden at Fairyhouse with Along. The regally-bred hope is one of several fillies for which a winning bracket is hugely important in terms of future breeding value.

There are few pedigrees in the world that can compare with Along, who is out of a full-sister to the world’s top sire Galileo and is also a half-sister to Sea The Stars.
