Setanta Cup/Portadown 0 Cork City 7:Roy O'Donovan's hat-trick was the highlight for Cork City last night as the highly-rated forward produced a devastating display as Cork capitalised on Portadown errors.
Cork needed less than five minutes to find space behind a makeshift Portadown backline. Darragh Ryan's wonderful cross found John O'Flynn but the striker's header was saved by Kevin Pressman.
The opening goal arrived on 14 minutes when O'Flynn failed to gain a clean connection but Denis Behan reacted to slot the ball home.
O'Flynn made amends for his mishit moments later with a drive which evaded Pressman. A third was scored just past the half hour as O'Flynn slipped a simple pass to Joe Gamble who picked his spot. Cork entered the interval with a four-goal cushion thanks to a superb finish by O'Donovan.
O'Donovan proved a constant threat after the break and he got his reward on 66 minutes by latching on to Philip Craig's back pass and guiding the ball past Pressman. Behan then produced a crisp finish to cap a flowing attack and O'Donovan's hat-trick strike wrapped up the rout on 85 minutes.
