Omagh CBS 0-10 St MacCartan's 1-06:St MacCartan's effort to close a 51-year gap from last winning the Bank of Ireland Dr MacRory Cup was cruelly dismissed at wintry Casement Park yesterday.
Omagh CBS took the honours by a one-point margin with Simon O'Neill the hero. He slotted over a 50-metre free in the seventh minute of injury-time to put his team ahead for the first time in the game.
St MacCartan's, with a gale force wind in their backs, led 1-5 to 0-2 at half-time, their goal coming from Gary White after 10 minutes.
On the restart Omagh fired over five unanswered points, four from play, in 18 minutes. Had it not been for the magnificent display of Monaghan full-back and Man of the Match Colum Greenan, the winners might well have added further scores.
St MacCartan's got their solitary point of the second half on 53 minutes from a Mark McDevitt free but a strong Omagh finish produced points from Peter Hughes, Colin Harkin and that amazing winner by Simon O'Neill.
