Celtic League: The result of tonight's match between the Ospreys and Llanelli in the Magners Celtic League at Stradey Park will be watched very closely by Michael Cheika's Leinster side. Cheika and his team face the Ospreys on Friday night in what both sides will consider a 10-point match.
Leinster currently top the league table on 55 points with Ospreys still chasing - from fourth - on 46 points. A bonus-point win tonight for Ospreys against a side that played a tough and disappointing European Cup match against Leicester on Saturday, combined with a bonus-point win over Leinster on Friday could propel the Ospreys into title contention.
"We are hugely sympathetic as to the plight of the Scarlets over the weekend as we experienced much the same the week before against Leicester," said Ospreys coach Lyn Davies.
"Having said that the players need no motivation for fixtures like these and we will be going all out to get the win. It will also take a huge effort for us to get in contention to win the Magners League, but if we maintain our focus, take each game at a time and other results go our way there is a mathematical possibility that we will be there or there about at the end of the season."
The Leinster team for Friday's game at the Liberty Stadium will be announced today with captain Brian O'Driscoll an unlikely starter. There are also concerns over the fitness of Leinster hooker Bernard Jackman, who was injured in the last Celtic League outing.
Elsewhere, Connacht's Ray Ofisa has been voted the province's players player of the year for the 2006/'07 season. The Samoan flanker, who signed from North Otago in New Zealand, has made 20 appearances for Connacht, scoring four tries in the process.
Daniel Riordan was voted the Connacht Players Young Player of the Year. The Galway man has made 27 appearances in a Connacht jersey this season, scoring five tries.
