They might have been without their international players, currently on duty with Ireland in Spain, but Hermes, UCD, Loreto and Old Alexandra all progressed to the quarter-finals of the Jacqui Potter Cup on Saturday.

With the exception of UCD, though, who hammered their seconds 9-0, the games were tight enough affairs, with Alexandra going through on penalty strokes after a 1-1 draw with Clontarf.

Ellen Curran got the only goal of the game in Hermes’ win over Pembroke Wanderers, while Pembroke’s seconds gave Loreto a testing afternoon, holding them scoreless until 10 minutes in to the second half, before conceding a late second.

In the four remaining ties the away teams prevailed, Jane Gilsenan scoring five for Muckross in their 7-0 defeat of Our Lady’s, Railway Union seeing off Trinity, Genesis beating Loreto II 5-3 and Rathgar getting the better of Railway’s seconds.
