Irish slalom skier Conor Lyne says he is confident he will be able to compete in both his events next week despite currently being in a sling with a shoulder injury.

Lyne had a fall on a training run on Monday, leaving him with compression of the shoulder joint. It means he will have to sit out training for the next three days at least but he is adamant that he will make the starting gate for his first event, next Wednesday’s giant slalom.

“It’s a bit sore but I’ll be okay,” he said. “It was a pretty bad fall and it hurt but I just have to rest it for a few days. I can’t train on it, that’s the only thing. But thankfully I have a long time until my event starts - I have a full week.

“I’ll definitely be skiing, no doubt about it. I didn’t come all this way not to ski. It’s sore right now but it’ll be grand.”

Lyne, who carried the Irish flag at the opening ceremony, is entered in the giant slalom and the slalom.
