Limerick's Fiona Doyle has bowed out of the FINA World Championships 100 metres Breaststroke in Barcelona after finishing seventh of eight in the first of the semi-finals in a time of 1.07.81.

The 21 year old had qualified for the penultimate stage of the event earlier in the day when she finished fourth in her heat in a time of 1.07.44, placing her 12th of the 16 semi-finalists time wise.

Doyle swam a time of 1.07.66 earlier this month, setting a new Irish record when winning a silver medal at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia. She would have had to lower that mark appreciably to make the final.
