Ireland's Fionnuala Britton missed out on a third Great Edinburgh Cross-Country title as she came home in second place behind Britain's Emelia Gorecka at Holyrood Park.

Gorecka, 20, came home in a time of 21 minutes 26 seconds for the six kilometre race, with two-time European cross-country champion Britton seven seconds behind and Spain’s Trihas Gebre in third.

Britton, 30, previously won the event in 2012 and 2013 and was also runner-up last year to Britain's Gemma Steele.

It was an American one-two in the men's race as Chris Derrick held off team-mate Jacob Riley to win the 8km race in a time of 25 minutes and 31 seconds. Britain's Jonathan Hay came home in third spot.
