From Belfast, McMillan has made steady and impressive progress since the junior ranks, winning 2018 World Schools Games gold in the 200m Freestyle, and silver in the 100m Freestyle. The Irish senior record holder in the 200m Freestyle, clocking 1:47.67 in April to lower his own mark of 1:47.68 from the semi-finals. A 2021 European Championships finalist, he is coached out of Bangor Swimming Club by Paul Dennis.
