JESPER PARNEVIK and Barry Lane led the European challenge in the Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona yesterday. Parnevik shot a 67 for a second round total of 133 one stroke behind the leader, American Woody Austin.

Lane is four shots behind Austin on 136 after his second successive 68 on the 6,992 yard, par 71 course.

However, play in the 1.3 million tournament was suspended yesterday because of darkness with 40 players from the 132 man field still to complete their second round. The tournament began 24 hours earlier than usual to avoid a clash with Sunday's Super Bowl.
