Australian Craig Parry holed out his second shot in sensational fashion for an eagle two to win the Doral Championship in Miami in a play-off with Scott Verplank yesterday.
The pair had finished at 17-under par 271 with Parry shooting a final round of 68 while Varplank made up a one-shot deficit with a 67.
However, at the first tie-hole Pary found the centre of the fairway off the tee while Verplank finished in the right rough and after the American found the green with his second shot Parry, with a six-iron, holed out for the eagle and victory.
Parry held a one-shot lead going into the last round. A bogey at the par-four 17th hole was the Australian's only flaw as he finished three rounds at 13-under 203 following a round that included six birdies at Doral's Blue Monster course.
He was a shot clear of Gene Sauers, who shot an eight-under 64, and Scott Verplank (65) at 12-under 204.
Ed Fiori charged through the field with a final round of 67 to force a play-off with Australian Graham Marsh in the Champions Tour Mastercard Classic in Mexico yesterday.
Fiori came from seven shots back to catch Marsh on six under par 216 for the 54 hole event
Fiori, in 12th place staring the final round gave early notice when he birdied five of the first six holes on his way to a 67.
Marsh, meanwhile, looked to have victory in his grasp when he held a two-shot advantage with three holes to play.
However, bogeys at both the 16th and 17th left the Australian needing a par a the last to force the play-off.
Hugh Baiocchi finished alone in third place on 211 with Jack Spradlin and Jim Ahern sharing fourth place on 213 - one ahead of Scotland's Sam Torrance on 214.
Mark McNulty, now playing under the Irish flag, finished on 216 after a final round of 69 while Eamonn Darcy was four shots back on 220 after rounds of 74 73 73.
Des Smyth, still trying to find the form of last year, was on six-over-par 220 after rounds of 74 72 and 76.
