Men's Hockey Round-up: Not surprisingly, Pembroke were able to travel to St Mark's this weekend and grab two points from Glenanne. While both sides were missing their international players, it's the first time this season that the Tallaght side have been beaten and it took the Leinster Senior Cup winners to do it.
In the first half, Gordon Elliott, Simon Kershaw and Alan Sothern made it 3-1 to Pembroke, with Glenanne's goal coming from Joe Brennan. Brennan was again on target midway through the second period from the penalty spot, but it wasn't enough to prevent Pembroke from coming within two points of the league leaders.
Although Glenanne, after 14 matches, have a game in hand over Pembroke and are almost certain to qualify for the All Ireland league play-offs, they will want to do so as the Leinster league champions.
As Annadale have won the Ulster league once again, with Lisnagarvey and Banbridge taking up the other two places, Glenanne's target for the season will be to go through to the qualifiers as the top Dublin team. With the winners representing Ireland in Europe next season, they will take any edge they can get.
All three Ulster sides showed over the weekend how well they can score goals. Garvey, who lost in last week's Irish Senior Cup final to Cork Harlequins, hit five goals against Cookstown, while Banbridge also hit five against Civil Service. Annadale, who played Instonians, were on target four times.
The Irish Junior Cup final yesterday proved it just wasn't to be Glenanne's weekend. Played in Belfield, before the women's Irish Cup final, Ulster's Annadale again came off winners. Two goals just after half-time had Glenanne chasing the match. Although Jonathon Kane grabbed a goal back for the Dublin side, Annadale held out to win 2-1.
