Sligo 3-11 Defence Forces 1-08: Sligo swept to an easy win over a disappointing Defence Forces side in this high-scoring game at Markievicz Park yesterday.
Sligo gave new manager James Kearins the best start with a superb Seán Davey goal after two minutes.
Mayo's Joe Keane got the Defence Forces off the mark on nine minutes, but the home side continued to pick off valuable points.
A Paul Taylor goal from the penalty spot two minutes from half-time, after Gerry McGowan was brought down, changed the course of the half.
The visitors failed to raise a flag for nine minutes at the start of the second half, during which time Sligo added half a dozen points.
Meanwhile, Leitrim lost by seven points to GMIT in their first-round game. The students led 0-6 to 0-3 at the break, and continued to dominate to run out 0-12 to 0-5 winners.
