Crescent College Comprehensive 17
Christian Brothers, Cork 7
Crescent Comprehensive won the Munster Junior Cup for a seventh time – and their first since 2011 – when they won a keenly-contested replay at Thomond Park. .
Following their 16-16 tie in the original game the Limerick side dominated what was their third meeting of the season in the competition against CBC.
The game was only four minutes old when Crescent went in front when backrow Jack Madden touched down. But it was CBC who led at half-time, 7-5, after their backrow Conor O’Sullivan got over following a scrum and Billy Cain converted. Seconds earlier the Cork side almost got in but winger Karl Waterman was hauled down just at the line.
Crescent dominated the second half and a splendid passing move involving backs and forwards saw them take the lead for the second time. Prop Ronan Gallery took the final pass to touch down and outhalf, and captain, Jack Hurley converted.
While they remained on top Crescent could never relax and in stoppage time they finally ensured victory when Ben Carew had their third try right in the corner.
It was a first win for Crescent since 2011 and they lost the three previous finals.
