Tom Hogan’s international stalwart Gordon Lord Byron

will tackle Haydock's Betfred Sprint Cup for the fourth time in his illustrious career this Saturday with bookmakers rating him among the market leaders to repeat his 2013 success.

Gordon Lord Byron’s famous defeat of Slade Power was sandwiched between two runner-up efforts in the Group One event. The veteran star finished second to Society Rock in 2012, and behind G Force last year.

Hogan has kept Gordon Lord Byron among 19 entries left in the six furlong event, a list that also includes another Irish trained sprinting stalwart, Sole Power.

Both last year's Dewhurst winner Belardo and last month's Stewards Cup hero Magical Memory have been supplemented into the race.

Belardo's trainer Roger Varian said: "On his last two runs over a mile we've felt he just wasn't getting home. He possesses a lot of natural speed and he has been tending to over-race. We feel it is worth trying him back at six furlongs."
