Tramore racecourse is to undergo a €1 million redevelopment after Horse Racing Ireland approved a capital development grant aid of €400,000 to improve the facilities at the track.

The 40 per cent grant will be used towards a number of projects up until 2020, with the Waterford course to receive a number of upgrades.

The redevelopment is set to improve the raceday experience for spectators, with a new entrance building, an extension to the parade ring and a refurbishment of the middle grandstand.

There will also be improvements made to the weigh-room, jockey’s facilities and press room as well as improving the stable yard.

Brian Kavanagh, CEO of Horse Racing Ireland, said: "Visitors to Tramore Racecourse, both racegoers and industry professionals, will really see the benefits of the significant improvements planned and we are happy to provide grant aid to facilitate these worthwhile projects. Tramore is a very popular, well-run racetrack and it is great to see them committed to improving facilities for racegoers, jockeys, trainers, owners and stable staff."

All 26 racecourses in Ireland were eligible to apply for funding under this scheme with Horse Racing Ireland providing 40 per cent of the cost of approved projects.
