Wicklow SFC Semi-final/Rathnew 0-12 Kiltegan 1-4:Rathnew have set up a county final meeting with Baltinglass next Sunday following their five-points win at Aughrim yesterday.
Baltinglass and Rathnew have dominated Wicklow football during the last two decades - winning 17 of the 20 titles between them - with each club also winning eight titles in a row.
Kiltegan started off yesterday's semi-final as if they were about to repeat last year's surprise semi-final win over Rathnew.
Inside two minutes they had rocked their opponents with a goal with full-forward Seánie Furlong rattling the net after taking a pass from Derek Daly, and three minutes later John Keogh popped over a free to put them four points ahead.
Rathnew, bidding for their 30th title this year, were slow to start, but once they got motoring they took a stranglehold on the proceedings, with the Mernagh brothers, Barry and Nicky, to the fore.
Yet, they did not open their account until the 16th minute when Tommy Gill had a point from a free. Trevor Doyle added four more points from frees, and Barry Mernagh tacked on another to leave Rathnew leading 0-6 to 1-1 at the break.
Declan Byrne stretched the Rathnew lead with a point three minutes after the restart and Kiltegan were subsequently never able to narrow the gap.
