HOCKEY: Both Corinthians and Glenanne are looking for a result that will suggest that recent scorelines that have gone against them have been aberrations, while Three Rock Rovers continue to impress.

Rovers won only five times last year in the league, but with three from three already secured this season they look likely even at this stage to easily surpass last year's standing of fifth in the table.

Facing Aer Lingus at AALSA takes the young side onto a slower pitch than that at Grange Road, but Dutch coach Bert Verken travels with an almost full squad: midfielder Pheilie Maguire is the only injury concern.

With just three games played, Aer Lingus have also secured nine points, with victories against YMCA, Avoca and UCD. They have proven to be a difficult side to break down as well as one with pace up front. The outcome could decide which team, if any this season, can exert a little pressure on leaders Pembroke Wanderers, who face YMCA at Wesley.

At the other end of the table, Avoca are still seeking their first points, while this week's opposition, Monkstown, are coming off a decent win over Glenanne. Cliff Baily again showed how dangerous he can be in front of goal with two last week and could be Avoca's biggest threat.

Railway Union, another team with confidence, will be in a better frame of mind, after hitting six goals last week, to prise something out of UCD at Park Avenue. Paul O'Brien, roaming around midfield and shaping his side, will be a significant threat, particularly at short corners, where off a slow pitch in Rathdown he generated considerable pace on the ball.

Irish champions Cork Harlequins will face English side Reading, Poland's Grunwald and a yet to be named German team in the European Club Championships A division next June.
