Connacht coach Michael Bradley has strengthened his squad by signing former London Irish captain Ryan Strudwick.
The acquisition of the experienced lock forward is a timely boost for Connacht as they bid to strengthen their position in the Magners League and face into key games in the European Challenge Cup.
The 33 year old South African, who captained London Irish to the Powergen Cup four years ago, will link up with Connacht later this week on a deal which runs to the end of the season.
The 6'5", 17st 10lbs lock forward spent eight seasons with London Irish up to this summer, having joined from Harlequins. Prior to that he played with Natal. He also played for South African University and the Barbarians.
Connacht have been in the market for an experienced lock forward and CEO Gerry Kelly said that the signing of Strudwick is a major capture for Connacht.
"We have three lock forwards in our squad and they are aged 26 or under, so bringing in an experienced player in this position has been a priority.
"Ryan brings a wealth of experience to the side and he will fit in well here. He is a big addition to us," said Kelly.
