Former captain Lawrence Dallaglio has been named on Friday in a 47-man England training squad for the World Cup in September and October.
Dallaglio, part of England's World Cup-winning side in 2003, has not featured in the national team since coach Brian Ashton took over from Andy Robinson in December last year.
England have a training camp in Portugal and warm-up matches against France and Wales before their title defence opens against the United States in Pool A in early September.
There was no room in the squad for Bath lock Danny Grewcock, who has been suspended for the warm-ups and the two opening World Cup games after punching an opponent in last month's European Challenge Cup final against Clermont.
