Chris Farrell (HIA) and Jordan Larmour (groin) have been released from the Irish squad ahead of next Saturday’s test against the USA Eagles in the Aviva Stadium (kick-off 7.15pm, live on RTÉ2 and C4 NI).

Both players are being managed by their respective provincial medical teams while, after his valuable contribution in last Saturday’s 39-31 win over Japan, Peter O’Mahony has also been released to commence his off season. No players have been called up, with the squad now trimmed to 35 players.

The USA squad, minus the injured AJ MacGinty, landed in Dublin today after Sunday’s 43-29 defeat by an experimental England side at Twickenham after which head coach Gary Gold could feel understandably pleased with a second-half effort which saw his side outscore their hosts by 26-17.

“I’m very encouraged because of the circumstances and the adversity we went through,” said Gold. “Things could have gone belly-up at half-time. Other teams may have given up the fight.”

This will be the third meeting between the two sides in the past four years, with another to come in Las Vegas in the autumn. Ireland beat the Eagles by 55-19 in New Jersey in 2017 and by 57-14 in the Aviva Stadium in 2018.
