Brian O'Driscoll will this afternoon undergo a scan on the hamstring injury sustained in Ireland's 19-9 RBS 6 Nations victory over Wales.
O'Driscoll limped off with five minutes of yesterday's match remaining and Ireland head coach Eddie O'Sullivan confirmed his captain is a doubt for Sunday's clash with France.
The Lions centre was due back in Dublin around midday and O'Sullivan hopes to have an update on his fitness later this afternoon.
He said: "It's too early yet to say whether Brian will be available for France. He'll go for a scan when we get back.
"He's up and about but we won't know the extent of any damage until we get back. He's sore today and he's got a bruise on the back of his thigh and that complicates matters. It isn't known whether the bruising will affect the injury."
O'Driscoll initially felt the injury earlier in the second half when supporting a break from Ronan O'Gara but continued after receiving treatment.
Ireland's options were limited by the fact O'Driscoll's centre partner Gordon D'Arcy was playing with a groin problem and O'Sullivan denied his failure to replace the 28-year-old was a gamble.
He said: "I think we managed the situation very well. We were aware of the fact Gordon had developed a groin injury, so both centres were carrying knocks.
"But Brian was able to function, not at 100 per cent but he was able to function.
"We were watching the whole way through and when he felt it tightening up more, it was the right time to take him off.
"I felt we managed the situation well - the worst case scenario would be to take him off early and then have Gordon come off.
"The midfield would have been a mess so, in that context, we replaced him at the right time."
D'Arcy is expected to available for Sunday's game, with O'Sullivan set to announced his team for the Croke Park opener on Wednesday.
