As expected, Brian O'Driscoll and David Wallace will both start against Namibia this Sunday as Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan opted for the strongest side at his disposal.

Of the Irish injury concerns leading up to the tournament in France, only Shane Horgan misses out with Ulster's Andrew Trimble getting the nod ahead of Geordan Murphy and Brian Carney for the right wing berth.

O'Driscoll has recovered from the fractured sinus suffered against Bayonne ahead of schedule while Wallace has finally been passed fit following a long-term ankle problem

There were no real surprises in the team selection announced this morning as O'Sullivan has chosen to field, with the obvious exception of  Horgan, what he clearly feels to be his strongest starting XV.

Despite starting two of the three warm-up matches, Murphy drops to the bench while there is no place in the match 22 for league convert Carney.

"We wanted to start the competition strongly so we've picked our strongest available side," explained the Irish coach. "The warm-up matches didn't have any bearing on my team selection — we want to put our best foot forward in the first game.

"We'll see how this game unfolds before deciding on what team to pick for Georgia. We don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves. Everyone is keen to get on the field and get some games under their belts."

O'Sullivan revealed Denis Hickie missed training today through illness but expects the Leinster winger to be ready to face Namibia.

He continued: "David and Brian are both fine. David went through all the sessions last week. He'll be short of match practice but is fit. Brian has been given the all clear too.

"Denis Hickie has a small bout of tonsillitis which kept him out of training today but it's nothing to worry about."

Wallace's inclusion means Neil Best of Ulster must settle for a place among the replacements with his provincial team-mate Stephen Ferris losing his place on the bench.

Indeed, Wallace will finally banish memories of his 2003 World Cup misery when he lines-up against Namibia.

He was overlooked by O'Sullivan for the squad four years ago.  The 31-year-old Munster openside was eventually called-up when Alan Quinlan withdrew through injury, but missing the initial cut remained a bitter experience.

But Wallace, who has overcome the ankle injury sustained in training nine weeks ago to regain the number seven jersey, is ready to make up for lost time.

"It was a low point of my career. It was very disappointing. In 1999 I was in touching distance," he said.

"To miss out four years later was hard to take. In 2003 I was coming off the back of a shoulder injury and there were a lot of quality back rows around at the time.

"Maybe I hadn't proved my form before the World Cup but I'm here this time and what's gone on in the past is in immaterial."
