Tri-Nations: Scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar will make his full debut for South Africa in a near full-strength team for Saturday's opening Tri Nations match against Australia.
The 23-year-old Pienaar, who has played in eight tests as a replacement, gets his chance because of injuries to first-choice halfbacks Fourie du Preez and Ricky Januarie.
Michael Claassens, who played the last of his six tests in 2005, was named as scrumhalf replacement.
"I know I have big boots to fill but I'm looking forward to the challenge," said Pienaar, who is likely to be up against experienced Wallaby George Gregan in Cape Town.
"We have played against each other in the Super 14 for the last couple of years so I'll just be going out to concentrate on my game," Pienaar added.
He makes his full debut on the same ground as his father, Gysie, who appeared at Newlands against the 1980 British and Irish Lions.
Springboks coach Jake White made 11 changes to the team that beat Samoa 35-8 last weekend, retaining captain John Smit, wings Ashwin Willemse and JP Pietersen and tighthead prop BJ Botha. White recalled all of the first-choice players he had rested after the 2-0 series victory over England.
South Africa: Montgomery; Willemse, Fourie, de Villiers, Pietersen; James, Pienaar; Steenkamp, BJ Botha, Smit; Botha, Matfield; Burger, Smith, Spies. Replacements: G Botha, van der Linde, Muller, Rossouw, Claassens, Olivier, Steyn.
