Italy's most-capped player Alessandro Troncon has retired from rugby but the former scrumhalf now has designs on getting his coaching badge and bringing his experience to the training field.

Troncon had already said he would retire from international rugby after the World Cup but has now quit completely.

Troncon made his 101st Italy appearance as stand-in captain in the 18-16 defeat to Scotland on September 29th which eliminated the Italians from the tournament.

"It has been difficult to decide but I have understood that I will not be able to give what I want," the 34-year-old told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I really like training but with old age I have discovered my limits. I would like to... try to be a coach. I don't have a coaching badge, only experience on the field, and I know that is not enough."

Troncon featured in four World Cups and played club rugby for Mirano, Treviso and Clermont Ferrand.
