Sligo IT 2-9 UCC 1-9:Sigerson Cup/First round: IT Sligo were lucky to survive a second-half fightback by UCC at the IT grounds yesterday, an 11th-minute goal by Galway's Nicky Joyce setting them up for a 1-6 to 0-3 interval lead.
The home side were five points in front before UCC landed a point by Michael Phelan in the 18th minute. Goalkeeper Paul Durcan pulled off a superb save to deny Phelan 60 seconds into the second half.
Conor McCarthy opened UCC's account a minute later and Conor McCarthy scored a penalty in the 51st minute. Sligo were hanging on when a Christy Toye shot went over the UCC bar.
Sligo will meet the holders, NUIG, in the quarter-finals.
