FBD Connacht SFL: Corner forwards Dessie Sloyan and Gerry McGowan bagged more than half of their team's total as slick Sligo swept to a runaway 0-15 to 0-4 win over GMIT at Kilcoyne Park, Tubbercurry, yesterday.
Sloyan and McGowan scored eight points between them, all of McGowan's scores coming from frees.
GMIT's prospects of building on their opening round win over Leitrim received a setback when midfielder Dermot Earley was ruled out with a hand injury.
In the other section B game, played at Cloone, the first-half dismissal of full back Mark Walsh for a personal foul four minutes into extra time provided Leitrim with a platform to launch an impressive second half performance against the Defence Forces.
Despite the 0-17 to 2-7 scoreline, the home side were always in control, leading by eight points with six minutes left.
Although the introduction of Kildare's Philip Wolfe in the closing stages yielded a goal (from a penalty) and two points, the result was never in doubt.
In Section A, Mayo beat Sligo IT by 2-10 to 1-7 at Ballyhaunis, and Roscommon enjoyed a 3-12 to 0-8 win over NUIG at Menlough.
