Savage staying putRobbie Savage is looking to see out his career with Birmingham City after finally pledging his future to the Premiership club.
A verbal agreement with manager Steve Bruce eight weeks ago will now be followed up tomorrow when Savage signs a new four-year contract, the final season optional.
The situation came to a head yesterday when Savage's boyhood heroes Everton attempted to lure the 29-year-old away from St Andrews, hoping to take advantage of the apparent stall between City and the midfielder.
However, it prompted Bruce and co-owner David Sullivan to get the deal with Savage moving, and the City boss describing Everton's £2.5 million bid as "derisory".
Unsurprisingly, and less than 24 hours later, Savage has resolved the issue and will now put pen to paper, insisting: "I never wanted to leave. I had a good chat with the gaffer this morning and I'm delighted it's agreed. It was agreed eight weeks ago.
"Because I've kept quiet on the situation, and for some reason the contract has never been signed, then it was brought to a head which was best for both parties because it has dragged on for a long time."
No Lennon return
Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon has ruled out a return to the international scene with Northern Ireland.
The 33-year-old quit playing for his country in 2002 following a death threat ahead of a friendly at Windsor Park.
Lennon believes his club career has benefited from the break from international football and family concerns mean he is unlikely to make a comeback.
He told the Celtic View: "I don't think it will happen as I wouldn't want to have to put my family through all that again because none of us need that kind of hassle."
Argentina on track
Argentina set up a Copa America quarter-final against hosts Peru after their 4-2 win over neighbours Uruguay, while Mexico sent Ecuador out of the tournament.
Striker Luciano Figueroa's first two goals for his country steered Argentina clear of a possible quarter-final with Brazil.
Mexico kicked off the Group B double bill with a 2-1 win over Ecuador, who finished bottom of the group with three straight defeats.
The Mexicans finished top with seven points and stay in Piura to face the runners-up in Group C on Sunday, which could be Paraguay or Chile.
Second-placed Argentina travel to Chiclayo for Saturday's showdown with the hosts and Uruguay qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
Germans play away
Franz Beckenbauer has hinted that Germany may appoint its first foreign national team coach as a replacement for Rudi Voeller. "The tendency today is: it will be a foreigner," he said. Beckenbauer heads a commission at the German football association charged with finding a new coach following the resignation of Voeller after Euro 2004.
