Then the evergreen Phillips, in a rich vein of form, effectively killed off the contest early in the second period with his 12th strike so far this season.

Baggies substitute Zoltan Gera completed the scoring only a couple of minutes after being brought on by Mowbray in what was a repeat of this season's result at The Hawthorns in the Coca-Cola Championship.

Albion had enough chances to have doubled their tally, and their creativity and fluency constantly troubled Wolves — with Jason Koumas prominent.

The home side had their fair share of possession and carved out some threatening positions from the flanks. but they lacked a cutting edge — and an Albion defence, in which Neil Clement excelled, was seldom fully extended.
