Bayern Munich have reiterated their determination to hang onto England midfielder Owen Hargreaves - but appear to have slightly softened their stance.

With the 25-year-old still sidelined from full training as he continues to recover from his broken leg, club president Franz Beckenbauer continued to play hardball with Manchester United but he did admit that a big-money bid for the Canada-born player could interest the Bavarian giants.

"It is right that a player who has just extended his contract is not simply allowed to leave because another club wants to pay him more," Beckenbauer told the Bild newspaper.

However, Beckenbauer admitted that if United were to bid €30 million they would not automatically reject it.

"If this supposed €30 million offer from Manchester United was put on the table we would have to think about it. That sum would give us some impact in the transfer market."

Hargreaves's recovery from a broken leg is not progressing as fast as was hoped.

He was hoping to step back into training with the rest of his Bayern Munich team-mates at their Dubai training camp today almost four months after breaking his leg.

However, further tests on his leg revealed the healing process was not as advanced as previously predicted and he will instead only take part in light training.

Hargreaves extended his contract until 2010 just before the World Cup last summer and Bayern successfully fended off overtures from United in the summer before the player's injury halted speculation.

With the midfielder nearing fitness again and the opening of the January transfer window, the speculation is set to intensify.

If a transfer goes ahead Alex Ferguson insists he has no intention of raising funds by selling Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ferguson said today: "We may sign someone in January, there may be a couple of signings, who knows? We are looking at some things.

"But we have the squad to handle it (all competitions)." Portugal winger Ronaldo has again been linked with a move to Real Madrid but Ferguson said: "There has not been an offer.

"It is not worth talking about anyway. It is not an issue for us."

Former Barcelona and Celtic striker Henrik Larsson is one new recruit and set to make his debut against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Sunday after arriving on loan from Helsingborg.
