Champions League round-up: Craig Bellamy travelled with Liverpool's squad today for their Champions League quarter-final against PSV Eindhoven despite still feeling the effects of a rib injury.
The Welsh international had been left out of the squad that beat Arsenal at the weekend, having picked up ankle and rib injuries while away playing for Wales last week.
Bellamy was considered fit enough to fly to Holland with the squad but said: "I got a really hefty knock from the San Marino 'keeper last week in Cardiff.
"It still hurts now when I breath but I really hope I will be fit to play against PSV. This European run is so important to me. I really want to be involved in what is the best level I have played at during my career."
Liverpool will monitor Bellamy over the next 24 hours before deciding whether he will figure against PSV in the Phillips Stadion tomorrow.
Manager Rafael Benitez has no other injury problems with skipper Steven Gerrard, taken off against Arsenal due to tiredness, also in the party.
Steve Finnan and Sami Hyypia, rested on Saturday, were also in the squad. Mohamed Sissoko is suspended for the first leg.
Alex Ferguson is likely to leave Louis Saha behind when Manchester United head to Italy for Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg with Roma.
The French forward has been absent for five weeks with a hamstring injury but is now nearing full fitness.
Ferguson believes Saha is fit enough to fulfil bench duties in Rome's Olympic Stadium. But, with so many key games looming, including the second leg of their European adventure at Old Trafford a week tomorrow, Ferguson is tempted to leave Saha behind to gain match practice in Thursday's reserve team encounter with Blackburn.
If Saha does turn out for the Red Devils' second string, he will be joined by Scotland international Darren Fletcher, who has made a quicker than expected recovery from an ankle injury he picked up in the FA Cup fifth round replay with at Reading in February.
With Nemanja Vidic joining defensive duo Gary Neville and Mikael Silvestre on the sidelines, Ferguson's resources are stretched and 18-year-old Belfast-born defender Craig Cathcart is set to be on the bench this week as United look to reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2002.
It was confirmed earlier today that Vidic broke his collarbone in Manchester United's 4-1 win over Blackburn on Saturday and will be out for at least four weeks.
