Dimitar Berbatov would not have signed for Manchester City no matter how much they had offered for him on transfer deadline day.

The 27-year-old completed a €37.7million move to Manchester United from Tottenham with just minutes to spare on September 1st.

However, a dramatic day was made more complicated with the confirmation that City had a bid accepted by Tottenham which is believed to have been in excess of the sum United eventually paid.

Once they realised Berbatov was committed to joining the Old Trafford outfit, City went elsewhere, eventually persuading Robinho to move from Real Madrid for an incredible €41million, smashing the British record transfer fee.

It appears to be the start of a revolution at Eastlands. But it also seems City might have more trouble attracting the players they want given Berbatov's stance.

"I would not even have thought about Manchester City," said Berbatov, who is expected to make his debut at Liverpool tommorrow. "My only goal was to come to Manchester United.

"My ambitions and goals are big and I want to fulfil them at the biggest club in the world.

"I heard about the offer Manchester City made and the money they want to spend.

"I was surprised but it did not make any difference to me. I just wanted to come here.

"That was my only goal - and I achieved it."
