Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc has been ruled out of tomorrow's Champions League clash against Spartak Moscow.

Manager Gordon Strachan confirmed the Poland international would not recover from his shoulder injury in time to appear.

Mark Brown, the January signing from Inverness, will make his Champions League debut in the third qualifying round match.

Brown has started each of Celtic's opening SPL games, after Boruc suffered his injury in the pre-season friendly at Newcastle.

Asked whether he had any qualms about starting with the 26-year-old for the crucial match, Strachan replied: "None."

Boruc (27) travelled with Celtic to Russia but was always considered doubtful, and the club's medical staff confirmed he would not be ready for the first-leg match.

Strachan said: "I wasn't told how close to fitness he was, I was just told he was out."

Celtic, like Spartak, enter the competition at this stage. The Scottish champions were granted automatic entry to last season's group stages.

Despite reaching the last 16 of the Champions League, where they lost out to AC Milan after extra-time in the San Siro, Uefa's coefficient system for dictating which teams enter at which stage determined that Celtic must, like Rangers, go through qualifying.
