Campbell set for Arsenal comeback

Arsenal could be set for a double fitness boost as they prepare to face Portsmouth on Saturday evening

Arsenal could be set for a double fitness boost as they prepare to face Portsmouth on Saturday evening. England centre-back Sol Campbell and Spanish striker Jose Antonio Reyes are both on the brink of a return to first-team action.

Campbell has been out of action since the defeat to West Ham on February 1st with bruising on his ankle bone. But he played 90 minutes for the reserves on Monday and emerged unscathed from what was his second full game in less than a week.

Reyes was last seen hobbling off in the goalless draw with Real Madrid earlier this month and has been struggling with a hamstring problem.

"We have the usual injuries," said coach Arsene Wenger. "But we could have Campbell and Reyes back. I don't know yet whether they will play on Saturday or not but they are very close.

"Sol did a conscientious job (in the reserves). His movement was better, he is 90 per cent there to compete for a place in the team."

It is maybe too early for Campbell to return to face Pompey as Arsenal look to go back into fourth spot in the Premiership by leapfrogging north London rivals Spurs.

Tottenham do not play until Monday when they take on struggling West Brom at White Hart Lane.
