Polish striker Maciej Zurawski drilled Celtic ahead after 13 minutes before Motherwell captain Jim Hamilton levelled with a fine volley from the penalty arc four minutes before the break.
Celtic substitute Aiden McGeady fired a deflected shot past goalkeeper Graeme Smith after 71 minutes and McGeady set up the third goal with a fine run and low cross from the left for Welsh striker John Hartson to slot home 14 minutes later.
Celtic are top with 57 points from 23 games. Hearts are second with 47 points after losing 1-0 at Kilmarnock yesterday. Champions Rangers, who trail the leaders by 17 points, romped to a 4-1 home win over bottom club Livingston.
