Celtic chairman Brian Quinn insists the Parkhead club will back manager Gordon Strachan with cash to strengthen his grip on Scottish football

The Glasgow giants retained their title yesterday with a dramatic 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

A trademark free-kick from Shunsuke Nakamura deep into injury time, after Colin Nish had equalised Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's first-half opener, secured the title in a season in which Strachan also guided the club to the last 16 of the Champions League for the first time.

If Celtic win the Tennent's Scottish Cup at the end of May, Strachan will have secured four trophies out of six in the two seasons he has been boss at Parkhead.

Quinn told BBC Radio the Hoops' board are keen to give Strachan money for new players. And the Parkhead chairman hopes that will entice the former Coventry and Southampton boss - who has found it hard to win over the fans - to remain in Scotland.

He said: "Some players will leave, it happens to every club every season. We'll have to think about replacements and strengthening and we'll sit down with Gordon.

"He has been an absolute model in this respect, he never carps, he never complains and we work together. And we'll expect to bring in some further class footballers in the course of the summer.

"Gordon, I think, enjoys being at Celtic. There's no indication whatsoever that he wants to move. He's taken a wee while to establish himself with the Celtic fans and that's understandable. But they were singing his praises yesterday, and very deservedly in my opinion."
