John Robertson's tenure as Derry City manager has come to an end after the eircom League Premier Division club released the Scot from his contract with immediate effect.
"The board of directors at Derry City Football Club have released manager John Robertson from his contract with immediate effect," the club statement read.
"Unfortunately Mr Robertson, in the board's view, has not been able, and will not be able, to fulfill the terms of his contract."
"Derry City therefore will now immediately seek the appointment of a new manager."
The former Hearts boss took over from Pat Fenlon in May and guided the Candystripes to FAI League Cup success, but he has struggled to settle into the role for personal reasons and his family are still based back in Scotland. He also spoke out at his unsettled relationship with the boardroom.
There is growing speculation that sacked Dunfermline manager Stephen Kenny could return to the Brandywell with Robertson touted in a move in the other direction in something of a swap move.
However, Kenny, who enjoyed much success with Derry the first time around, suggested last week he wouldn't be returning to the club.
At Dunfermline Kenny did well trying to keep Dunfermline in the Scottish Premier League last season, but ultimately came up short and were relegated. He did manage to guide the Fife side to the Scottish Cup final.
Kenny had been expected to return Dunfermline back to the top flight, but under a tighter budget 'The Pars' have struggled and find themselves second from bottom in Division One.
