Premier Division round-up:Derry City's hopes of going top were dashed by a Gary McCabe goal after 72 minutes as Bray Wanderers took a point in a 1-1 draw at the Carlisle Grounds tonight.
Ciaran Martyn had given the Candystripes the lead in the 16th minute as they looked to make up for losing twice at the seaside venue last season and striker Thomas Stewart wasted a great chance to double the lead on the half-hour mark.
Bray were a transformed side after the break, with McCabe cutting in off his wing to fire past Pat Jennings in the City net and keep up their unbeaten home record this season.
Denis Behan helped Cork City move up to third spot when he fired home from Billy Dennehy’s through ball to secure a 2-1 comeback win against Dundalk at Oriel Park.
Chris Turner had put the home side ahead on 61 minutes, only for a mix-up between Liam Burns and Chris Bennion that was punished as Dennehy nipped in to equalise 10 minutes later
Gary Twigg claimed a hat-trick as Shamrock Rovers moved into fourth spot in the table with a 3-1 win over Galway United at Terryland Park.
The striker grabbed his first two within 17 minutes, but Vinny Faherty gave the home side hope on 55 minutes when he scored from Jay O’Shea’s corner.
Twigg was to have the final say, wrapping up his hat-trick on 62 minutes to send Galway down to fifth.
St Patrick’s Athletic got back to winning ways at Richmond Park tonight as goals from Andy Haran and Stuart Byrne helped them see off Drogheda United 2-1.
It leaves Drogheda rooted to the bottom of the table after their sixth defeat in eight games this season. Mark Duggan did grab a late consolation, but they remain five points adrift of Louth rivals Dundalk at the bottom.
